About Elite Driver Training
Hi, I’m Martin, founder of Elite Driver Training.
I’ve been involved in professional driver training since 2001, with experience ranging from learner and licence training through to advanced driving, defensive driving and emergency-services driver training.
Over the years I’ve worked as a driving instructor, advanced and fleet driver trainer, emergency-services driver trainer and Driving Testing Officer. I’m also experienced in the principles of Roadcraft and IPSGA, with a strong focus on observation, planning, vehicle control and helping drivers understand what is happening around them rather than simply teaching them how to pass a test.
Based on the Kāpiti Coast, Elite Driver Training provides professional, practical driver coaching for people at different stages of their driving journey.
Learner Driver Training
For new drivers, the aim is to build confidence and good habits from the beginning.
Lessons are structured around the individual driver, covering areas such as vehicle control, observation, intersections, positioning, speed management, hazard awareness and safe decision-making.
The goal isn’t just to prepare you for your practical driving test. It’s to help you become a safe, confident and independent driver.
Advanced Driver Coaching
For experienced drivers, Elite Driver Training offers coaching designed to take driving beyond the basic licence standard.
Using recognised advanced-driving principles, we can work on:
- Observation and forward planning
- Road positioning
- Cornering and bend assessment
- Smooth vehicle control
- Systematic driving
- Hazard awareness
- Commentary driving
- Defensive driving techniques
Advanced coaching can be tailored to everyday road driving, professional drivers or anyone who simply wants to improve their driving skills.
Corporate & Professional Driver Training
Elite Driver Training is also being developed to provide corporate and fleet driver training across the Kāpiti Coast and wider Wellington region.
Training can be tailored to businesses looking to improve driver safety, reduce risk and develop safer, more professional driving practices within their organisation.
My Approach
I believe good driver training should be calm, professional and practical.
Rather than simply telling someone what they have done wrong, I prefer to help drivers understand why something happened, what information was available and what they could do differently next time.
Everyone learns differently, so coaching is adapted to the experience, confidence and goals of the individual driver.
Whether you are sitting behind the wheel for the first time, preparing for your restricted or full licence, wanting to improve your driving after many years on the road, or looking for professional driver development, Elite Driver Training can help you take the next step.
